What Xtra Hands does that other chore apps don't
Before I built Xtra Hands I tried most of the chore apps out there. A few were gimmicks. The rest were always missing the one or two things my house actually needed. So this isn't a "which app is right for you" roundup. It's a straight look at what Xtra Hands does that the others don't.
Two quick notes. This isn't about the kids' debit-card apps. Those are banking products with a chore list tacked on, and that's a different conversation. And everything below is based on each app's public feature list when I wrote this. Features move around, so check before you commit.

A few of those rows are worth explaining.
Proof that actually holds up
Photo proof is where everyone's headed. But attaching a photo and proving a chore got done aren't the same thing. In most apps the reward already posted, so the photo just sits there next to a checked box. A couple use AI to judge the picture, which is quick but hands the call to software.
We treat proof as a hold. A chore that needs it pays nothing until a parent looks and approves. Reject it and no money moves, so the balance is never wrong while it waits. It also works with no signal. Take the photo in a basement and it uploads the moment the phone reconnects. And it quietly strips out the location data that cameras bury in every photo, so a picture of a clean kitchen can't tell anyone where you live.
Stars for one, cash for another
Most apps make you pick a lane. Points for everyone, or money for everyone. Households don't work like that. Here you set it per person. Stars for the youngest, cash for the teenager, nothing for the adult who's just pitching in. Everyone spends what they earn in the same rewards store, and nobody argues about the exchange rate.
The ledger runs both ways
Every other chore app I tried only adds money. Real households take some back out too. Xtra Hands does both. Put a recurring monthly expense on someone and it comes off what they're owed, automatically, every month. A phone bill. A charge for the cracked screen. Rent for the grown-up who moved out and then moved right back in, which is still cheaper than a lease and now it's on the books. Money in, money out, balance always right. I've yet to find another chore app that even has the idea.
It knows whose turn it is
A checklist can hand out a chore. It can't work out whose turn the dishes are tonight on its own. Give a chore to the whole house and Xtra Hands rotates it, so that's settled before anyone asks. Reminders go to whoever's actually up, instead of coming from you. That's most of what people mean when they say they want to stop nagging.
Fits the house you actually have
Not everyone has a phone. Someone without one checks in on the kitchen tablet, or a parent does it for them, while everyone else uses their own. Lock mode keeps that tablet on the chore board instead of the settings menu. Co-parents are free and see the same approvals and ledger from their own phones, wherever they live. A parent splitting custody can run two separate households with separate PINs. And if someone's away, away mode pauses their chores so nothing's waiting for them when they get back.
About that last row
One row has an X on our side, and it's on purpose. Some apps are built around an earnings leaderboard, a running scoreboard of who's earned the most. We skipped it. A household isn't a contest, and ranking the people in it against each other is the opposite of what we're going for. If a scoreboard is what you want, we're honestly not your app.

Watch out for per-child fees that quietly stack up. We charge by how many people actually do chores, Solo up to Crew, not by head. Co-parents are free, there are no ads, every plan starts with a trial, and you can cancel whenever.
The bottom line
Plenty of apps will give you a shared list. If what you want is the schedule deciding whose turn it is, the payout waiting on real proof, and a ledger that stays honest across whatever mix of phones and tablets you've got, that's the one we built. It's the one we needed.
